The films or video tapes are used to record images and the target is labeled manually in traditional methods for detecting small and remote object. The disadvantages of the methods are that the labor intensity is great, detection speed is slow and the location accuracy is low. Two novel methods based on the digital image processing technology are put forward in the paper. The first method of the static target detection is as follow: The dynamic threshold segmentation is used to separate the target from complicated background. The candidate targets are labeled according with the region label law. Finally the cross center of the target is located with the gravity law. The second method of the static target detection is as follow: The target is detected by using the template matching, orient the center of the cross of the target by using the gravity law. On the basis of the static target detection, the paper puts forward the strategy of dynamic target tracking. Experiments indicate our strategy is fit to the request of the dynamic target detection and tracking in the shooting range.
