| On the basis of the analysis of the Legal Report from APPRAISAL perspective, the paper explores the reason of its successful persuasion. The paper is written in English and is made up of five chapters.Chapter One first puts forward the rationale. Martin's APPRAISAL System is mainly about the study of attitudes in language. Whereas Legal Report contains various attitudes, such as the narrator's attitude, the host's attitude, the honored guest's attitude, etc., so the paper intends to make such kind of research and explore the reason of the successful persuasion of the program. Then the objectives are put forward, namely, the effect and the percentage that attitudinal clauses take in the discourse, the effect and the percentage that explicit expression and implicit expression take separately, the effect and the percentage that positive evaluation and negative evaluation take separately, the effect and the percentage that monogloss (single voice) and heterogloss (different voices) take separately, the effect and the percentage that Strengthen (raise and sharpen) and Weaken (lower and soften) take separately in expressing attitudes. Afterward, the theoretical framework to be used is put forward, namely, Martin's APPRAISAL System. Finally, the qualitative analysis method as well as the data is introduced.Chapter Two makes a literature review. The review shows that the new Hallidians have made sufficient research of the APPRAISAL System since its birth. The research indicates that the APPRAISAL theory is of great practical value. It can efficiently aid to explore the appraisal resources in the language and make clear the language user's attitude, viewpoint and standpoint systemically. But the review indicates that the research of applying the APPRAISAL System into judicial discourse analysis is not enough, which leads to the objectives.Chapter Three first illustrates the reason of choosing Martin's APPRAISAL System as the theoretical framework, and then emphasizes the important aspects of the APPRAISAL System, namely, the explicit/implicit expression, positive/negative evaluation in Attitude;... |
