Video encode/decode is an important research part of multimedia technology and the pivotal core of multimedia application system.This technique is always regarded by the researcher all over the world this years.The ITU and ISO organization bring forward the standard system themselves.H.263 is a video coding standard made by ITU,which is mainly used to transmit visual signals in a low rate.At present,it's mainly used in web tele-meeting, visual Telephone, digital wireless communication systems and so on.Digital media processor is a special DSP,its hardware core structure is especially designed for multimedia data processing. Not only plentiful multimedia data processing instructions are available, but also it is more flexible for implementation of video encoder. At 600 MHz and 4800 MIPS,the new generation DSP-DM642 digital media processor,which is representative of TI's C64xx series 32-bit DSP,offers industry-leading performance.The processor which is integrated multimedia and network peripheral interfaces reduces system cost for multimedia applications.The system can be implemented through on-chip integration of key audio/video and connectivity peripherals. So, DM642 is an ideal platform for multimedia applications.This paper's purpose is realizing the core software part of video monitoring system. At first this paper specified the standard of H.263 video signal encoder. In the next place it discussed the method of implementation fast-matching motion estimation. A new diamond search algorithm for fast-matching motion estimation was proposeded to replace the traditional three-step search algorithm in the motion estimation region. Experiments results demonstrated that the application on the new diamond search algorithm has magnificently improved the efficiency of compression ratio and computing speed in contrast to the three-step search algorithm. Then it simply specified the C64xx series DSP, and investigated how to implementate the H.263 encoding standard in software. Finally,it recommend the ways and means of optimizing the code after transplant from C/C++ to DSP, and in fact, the results indicate that it implement the real-time coding using the software.The research results of this paper can be used in the long-distance education, video conference, videophone, embedded video real-time control, and various kinds of communication systems. It has greater research value and extensive practical value.
