The limited covering capacity of IEEE 802.11 technology baffles its cosmically commercial application. As a new networking technology, Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) supplies a new way for the practical use of Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) and Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET).WMN is a new type of broadband wireless access network that combines the advantages of WLAN and Ad hoc Network. In the investigation of WMN, there are many key technologies to be solved, which play a key role for the design and practical application of WMN. Simulating and performance analysis of scheduling strategies for WMN are the main parts of this thesis.In chapter one, the evolution and investigation situation of WMN, signification of the thesis, investigation situation of multi-channel and multi-NC (Network Card) for WMN, the contribution and structure of this thesis are introduced. Then, a double-NC scheme for WMN is proposed in chapter two, and its operation principle is described in detail. In the third part of the thesis, bandwidth resource allocation strategies of WMN are investigated and an 802.11e based double-NC scheduling algorithm is proposed. Network simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm solves the capacity expanding issue effectively by taking additional NCs compared with the single-channel MAC solution. Besides, the 802.11e based algorithm could guarantee the Quality of Service in certain degree. Then in chapter four, based on the scheduling algorithm in chapter three the bandwidth efficiency of NCs is taken into account. Simulation results indicate that in certain situation the scheduling algorithm considering the bandwidth efficiency of NCs can increase the throughput forwarded to other nodes, but the throughput sent to local terminals hardly changes. Therefore in the application of WMN, it is necessary to adopt different scheduling algorithms for nodes of different location.Finally, the thesis is concluded and future work is proposed.
