Liang Qichao is the torchbearer and specialist of bourgeois journalism in China in the modern times, and he regards running newspaper as powerful means of realizing his politics ideal as a politician. In recent years, many scholars of press have discussed roundly and deeply about Liang Qichao' s great contribution in the journalistic history. They have gained plentiful and substantial achievements, for example, they found that Liang Qichao had accelerated the understanding of function of journalism in the modern times, put forward the theory of part organ for the first time, discussed and dissertated roundly the theory of neoteric bourgeois consensus, pursued the freedomof press insistently, and made a study of improving and innovating operation of the press with great concentration . But few of them pay attention to the limitations of Liang Qichao' s theory of journalism for the cause of history, class and himself. And even if they mentioned the limitations, the scholars didn' t think and discuss deeply about them.In order to have a general , impersonal and just understanding, the thesis tries to have an overall summarize and study about the limitations of Liang Qichao' s theory of journalism and analyses the exoteric and internal causes of resulting in the limitations. We hope that the professionals of journalism can acquire enlightenment from the experience and lessons of the journalistic elitist.The thesis consists of three parts, including the preface, the text and the epilogue.The preface introduces briefly the important status of history of Chinese journalism, huge contribution and the limitations of Liang Qichao' s theory of journalism , and explains the purpose of the study.The text is divided into two parts. The first part analyses the representation of the limitations in Liang Qichao' s theory of journalism from five ways , including unilateralunderstanding of the journalism, magnifying the worth of consensus impertinently , and imprecise orientation of the accepter of journalism, defects of the understanding of the freedom of journalism and in the course of pursuing it and the deviation between the theory and practice. The second part discusses the cause of Liang Qichao' s limitations in journalism theory from two sides , that is , the special historical background, his great conventional and Occidental learning and extraordinary temperament.The epilogue summarizes the thesis. It mentions that Liang Qichao is the great pressman in the history of Chinese journalism in the 20th century even if there are contribution and limitations in the field of theory and practice at the same time.
