In optical communication system, the enlargement of transmission capacity, the improvement of transmission rate, the extension of transmission distance are all closely linked with nonlinear effect and dispersion effect. With widened application of EDFA, the weakness in fiber loss is mostly controlled. Therefore, the Fiber dispersion effect and nonlinear effect become the remaining significant factors that restrict the rate and distance of transmission of optical signal. Because dispersion can efficiently restrain the effect of nonlinear so that, regarding the key to update and enlarge optical communication, mostly the dispersion left major problems. And it only applicable to satisfy further requirement of communication system by compensating dispersion on the optical system of higher speed and longer distance. The main works of mine are the following:First of all, under the principle of transmitting through light pulse on single mode fibers, we analyzed the principle of compensating dispersion in worldwide high bit rate optical fiber communication system and what effect on optical fiber communication system was left by dispersion.Secondly, one authority made analyses on technology of compensating dispersion in worldwide high bit rate optical fiber communication system and investigated the mechanism and characteristic in it, and compared weakness and strength from the point of system Performance. And those investigations focus on Vitual Image Phased Array, Fiber Solition Transmission, Planar Optical Circuit. The above-mentioned technologies of compensating dispersion are still in their infancy and slowly on the proceeds of application. However, the FBG keeps its competitive edge, compared with other technologies. So far, FBG is the most promising project designed for the high bit-rate, large capacity, and longer distance transmission distance optical communication system via compensating dispersion.Finally, based on Optiwave Software, we simulated the performance of 3 systems G.652 optical transmissions in order to compensate dispersion via FBG. Therate of each three is respectively 10 Gb/s, 40Gb/s, and 16 channels n 40Gb/sDWDM. The investigation in simulation explain that the quantity of the input fiber power greatly affects the dispersion compensation system and input fiber power in a particular range in each system is well capable, and besides, dispersion compensation bandwiths of the fiber braggs grating plays an importantly role in the system. Furthermore, other experiments show that it has certain impact on bit error rate in high speed DWDM system.
