Smart antenna technology has been confirmed as one of key technologies of the third generation mobile communication system, and will play an important role in the future. The system simulation not only can validate all methods in this field, but also can evaluate algorithms, and it affords a big assistance to the smart antenna research. In this paper, the correlation technique of smart antenna system simulation is detailedly discussed. The main contents are as follows:Typical algorithms for smart antenna are summarized. According to the form of signal processing, these algorithms are divided into three sorts, and then their cost function, iterative procedure and implement difficulty are analyzed. The performance difference between them is got by comparing convergent tendency and antenna patterns.Based on adaptive theory, two pattern synthesis methods are proposed. One provides predominant effect in beam shaping, the other provides in synthesis speed. Both of them have no restriction on the spatial distribution and the directional property of array elements, and can achieve the desired pattern effectively.The radio channel character is discussed and the influential factor of receiving signal is described. Several channel models which are usually used in computer simulation are introduced, especially the GBSBEM channel model, and the detail of dealing with channel model is further analyzed.The combining of smart antenna and RAKE receiver is deeply studied. Two structures of SA-RAKE receiver are analyzed and compared based on above model, and the system performance improvements they caused are discussed.A software package of smart antenna simulation is implemented, which has flexible configuration and strong expansibility. This software package presents a comprehensive simulation of signal reception, and the final results may show its availability.
