Traditional digital signature systems can only sign one single file, and they use single direction hash algorithm. Those hash algorithms are essentially serialized, so the longer the length of the source file is, the longer the hash operation takes. With the development of both computer software and hardware, more and more mass storage formats such as log files and media files have been widely used. The archive collections used in signature systems become longer and longer in length, and more and more complex in structure. Traditional systems can't satisfy the speed demand and the damand on complicated-structured archive coUections.Under this situation, the protection on the integrality of isomerous and mass archive collections has become a hotly discussed issue.By studying the advantages of some existing signature systems, a kind of star-shaped appendant signature solution is brought forward in this paper. The following are the main investigations involved:1) Refering on the fundamental of embed signature systems and the star-typed signature algorithm which is widely used in stream data signature systems, a star-shaped appendant signature solution is brought forword in this paper. By using the star-typed algorithm, the speed of hash operation can be greatly improved, and by using appendant signature, the integrality of the archive structure can be also protected.2) Analyse the security and performance of the star-shaped appendant signature solution, and special attention has been paid on the security of the star-shaped hash algorithm, especially under birthday attack.3) Design and implement a star-shaped appendant signature system. Special attention has been paid on usability.
