Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation is an effective method for high data rate transmission. However, OFDM systems are always very sensitive to the errors of timing and frequency synchronization. In this paper we deal with the problem of timing synchronization of OFDM systems under array receivers. Under the basis of the existing cyclic prefix (CP) based timing synchronization method, we proposed a new blind timing synchronization method using adaptive beamforming. In order to improve the timing accuracy in the presence of multipath rays, a new approach is proposed by extending the length of cross correlation. The proposed method can reduce the effect of multipath rays effectively and improves the output signal to noise ratio. Simulation results show that in rich multipath scenarios the approach works effectively either in the absence or the presence of carrier frequency offset.
