The research in information theory has shown that large gains in capacity of communication over wireless channels are feasible in multiple antenna (MIMO) systems. Space-time coding is a set of practical signal design techniques aimed at approaching the information theoretic capacity limit of MIMO channels. In future 3G mobile communication, Space-time coding is a new technique which has strong ability to exterminate fading and improved channel capacity of communication system. Space-time coding is based on introducing joint correlation in transmitted signals in both the space and time domains. Through this approach, simultaneous diversity and coding gains can be obtained, as well as high spectral efficiency.Orthogonal space-time block codes (OSTBC) has simply encoding&decoding algorithm, full diversity and easy to realize. So it has been used in some kinds of wireless communication system. But the OSTBC can not reach the full rate when transmit antennas is more than 2 with two dimension. For this problem, a new space-time block codes base on rotating constellations was constructed with full coding rate. Some positive results are obtained and summarized. Firstly, the structure of MIMO system and different space-time encoding technologies were introduced briefly. At same time space-time coding performance and code design were analyzed. Secondly, the encoding&decoding principle of STBC base on rotating constellations is presented, simulation results are given. Lastly, the system structure of the serially concatenated STBC for quasi-static fading channel is presented. The simulation result of the STBC concatenated with Turbo code is given, then the advantages and limitations of the algorithm are pointed out.
