Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) is being described as a local networkCommunication where the working scope extends hundreds meters and data transferring rateis as high as 2Mb/s.The purpose of this paper is to locate WLAN technology on material flow area. InMotorola PCS Shipping Dock, the wire resource is very limited, so that it is hard to increasethe efficiency of inbound and outbound operation. Also it is a tough job to lie out the wiredequipment and control its security usage. The active solution is to replace all wired equipmentby Wi-Fi device and make use of WLAN technology, to set up wireless local area network inshipping dock area. Base on the analysis, WLAN solution is an effective way to solve all theabove problems and to make sure the stablility and reliability of network. The new point of this WLAN solution is to change the database network structure, toreplace the customer-server mode by browser-server mode. On the interface developing, thepaper is trying to use the JSP and Java programing tools to develop the MU applicationinterface within FCS system, to make sure the communication with the wired LAN. On thesecurity and safe control point, the paper tends to transplant the Iwork Shell technology onthe WLAN equipment. In the paper, the WLAN solution selects the Wi-Fi equipment AP (Access Point) and MU(Mobile Utility) and conducts the comparison test to verify their performance. Through thefield investigation, the paper suggests two kinds of network structure to meet the actualrequirement. Finally, the paper gives a measurement and Pings emulating method to analyzethe WLAN. The result shows that the WLAN solution is a good way to balance the datatransfer rate and system stability.
