Traditional Web Service Description language WSDL lacks computer-interpretable semantic information. However, the development of Semantic Web makes it possible to solve this problem. The goal of Semantic Web is to extend WWW, and makes all the information in the network has semantic and computer-interpretable, and easy to communicate and collaborate between human and computer. The research emphasizes particularly on how to represent the information as the form computer can understand and process. Web services composition is a new distributed develop framework by sharing information and collaboration among existing Web services. Web services composition can make new Web services to solve complex problem. The confluence of Semantic Web and Web Services composition gives birth to a new technology — Semantic Web services composition. On the other hand, as recently continually improving of the AI planning in capability, and because its comparability with the Web Service composition, Web Service composition related to AI planning become the focus presently. The research of this thesis is technologies of planning-based semantic Web Services composition. This thesis discusses the key technologies of Semantic Web services composition, including Web service, Semantic Web service makeup language OWL, Semantic Web service description model OWL-S and Web services composition methods. Web services composition methods focus on the methods which are related to AI planning and adopted by large number of research institutions. By analyzing the classic AI planning and HTN planning, illustrate HTN planning supports automatic Semantic Web services composition. The main points of this thesis are described as follows: 1. Discuses Semantic Web service description model OWL-S, AI planning and Web Service composition, and show its insufficiency to Semantic Web Service compositon. 2. A method of Web Service composition is put forward based on OWL-S and HTN planning of SHOP2, illustrate mapping method from OWL-S to SHOP2 is given. 3. Finally, based on the method given, a Semantic Web services composition prototype framework is designed and a demo is implemented.
