This project is about designing an integrated database information system with particular attention to instituting an Online Reservation facility at Hotel Equatoria, Kampala. Emphasis has been put on HEKU Hotel database design and realization techniques, based on an efficient Client-Server architecture for successful functioning HEKU hotel's required standards. The HEKU Hotel has been facing all problems related with insufficient management information system. Besides, despite existence of some facilities that would allow HEKU hotel to market and advertise their services through the Internet, this potential had not been exploited. The project work there covers the implementation of an Online Reservation facility where customers can make bookings to the HEKU hotel through the World Wide Web sites. The expected outcomes include increased business returns and efficient customer service and satisfaction. The project work was accomplished through a thorough Systems Analysis and Investigations for existing information system at HEKU hotel. This revealed the prevailing database and reservation problems faced by the Hotel management team. The project was then design using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 for the desktop application and Microsoft Sequel Query Language ( MS - SQL) 2000 Server and HTML with ASP for the web application.A web page was designed to permit Customers get a pictorial view of the features of existing facilities at the Hotel. This serves as a channel for marketing and advertising, while also enabling customers to make Online Reservations to the Hotel. The project was designed in such a way that a customer making a reservation gets the data submitted to the Database Server instantly and immediately receives a notification if the transfer has been successfully registered. A search feature is included on the web page to enable customers know which rooms and suites are free for booking and the charges applicable.Authentication and Encryption Security measures were put in place to enable secure transfer of data between the Client and Server.Locally the system is designed to enable hotel staff enter data to the database for customers that make reservations locally at the hotel. Passwords assist the secure and controlled access to the Database.Stored Procedures are used for both the Online and Offline Reservations to ensure easy insertion and retrieval of data from and to the database. Views were incorporated in the database to provide the ability to store a predefined query as an object in the database for later use. Finally, the system designed was tested through entering sample data collected from HEKU Hotel into the database. When queried, some Reports were successfully generated as desired. A summary of the recommendations and required hardware was provided.
