Ensuring the quality of CAD model data exchanged among different CAD system can promote the development of new products in concurrent engineering and collaborate engineering environments. The research to improve the data quality of CAD model in original modeling stage is very significative both on theory and on practice.Based the reading and studying a deal of knowledge on production data> data exchange,^ data quality for data exchange, the paper sums up all information involving product total life cycle and focused on concepts on data information and data quality of 3-D solid.The paper researchs the STEP(Standard for the Exchange of Product model data)which is prevalent all over the world and studys the EXPRESS language used to be specially for information modeling. At the same time ,the paper understands the structure of STEP AP203 (Application Protocol 203)neutral file , the method of 3-D model information expression and the way of data exchange.Based the data format of CAD solid model the paper classify the general data error with geometry error or topology error and provides feasible guidelines for modeling to improve the initial data quality of CAD models after analyzing the common modeling error with data exchanging.By means of performing some experiment of model data exchange between Pro/e and SolidWords,the paper verifys some data error mentioned ahead of the article and point out the reason of data exchange error.The paper research the data quality both on theory and on practice. The object is emphasize the data quality for data exchange on the original drawer and introduce them good guidelines for modeling to promote the efficiency.
