With the development of technology, people gradually enter information society based on data communication network. As routing and switching nodes, routers are key equipments in Internet infrastructure. As a new type communication method, muticast has been paying broad attentions and is research hotspot all the time these years. Supporting multicast is one of indispensable functions in current routing equipments.This dissertation is devoted to the researches of the theory and implementation of PIM-SM, which is protocol independent multicast-sparse mode according to the requirements of "863" "High Performance IPv4/IPv6Terabit Router" project. Based on the analyses of the principles of multicast routing, source code of PIM-SM, and the requirements of PIM-SM implementation in the Terabit router design; it puts forward a distributed implementation scheme for PIM-SM in the Terabit router and fulfills the PIM-SM implementation. Besides, the security issues and vulnerabilities of PIM-SM are also analyzed, and corresponding solutions are put forward. The work of this dissertation is as follows: The originality of the dissertation is introduced. Current status of related researches and significant of our work are stated, and the background technologies are given; The basic principles and features of PIM-SM are analyzed. The implementation method of PIM-SM in the Terabit router is given, and the hierarchical structure, forwording characteristics and functional features are analyzed; Based on the analyses of the requirements of PIM-SM implementation in the Terabit router design, a distributed implementation scheme for PEVI-SM in the Tbit router is put forward; The designs of control plane, data plane and inner communication mechanics are given in details. Especially, the designs of forwarding table, forwarding table update and transferring data-driven message from forwarding engine to main controller are given. The feasibility and effectiveness of the design are also given; The security issues and vulnerabilities of PIM-SM are also analyzed, and corresponding solutions are put forward; Practical testing plan is given. The rationality, extensibility and the efficiency of our designed scheme are validated by testing results.
