P2P has gotten more and more people's attention for its great potential on technology, and it is wildly used in file sharing, distributed computing, collaboration, instant message, etc.Allowing file exchange among the end client peers through Internet is the initial purpose of peer-to-peer. In the short history of P2P applications, it has become one of the main application types that consume a large fraction of Internet traffic.P2P architecture has begun to show its capability to support massive users, and this capability makes it suitable for rapidly deploying powerful and large-scale distributed applications with low cost.This paper first give an overview on P2P technology, and compared it with the traditional Client/Server model, from which we know the advantages and shortcomings of P2P. Then based on the research of several popular P2P protocol for file sharing, we sort the P2P systems from architecture. And introduce the router algorithm of every P2P protocol in detail.Then analyse a P2P content delivery system,BitTorrent,with an efficient load balancing mechanism, and large files can be delivered quickly to many users by BitTorrent.However, BitTorrent system relies on a center device, tracker,so the users in different tracker can't connect each other,it affects transmission efficiency of BitTorrent system.Then aiming at this problem in BitTorrent system, we import tracker network model, define BitTorrent tracker communication protocol, and the scalability of BitTorrent system is improved.Finally, this paper recapitulate the research, and look forward to the next research direction.
