Satellite optical communication is a promising technology for further space communications, though it has lots of matters to be solved. As one of the key technologies for satellite optical communication, PAT (Pointing, acquisition, and tracking) technique performs a prominent role.The principle of stepper motor is illustrated, and its driving technique of stepper motor is analyzed based on the PAT application in this paper, and upon these statements, a model of micro-step motor driver is built. With this model, the gimbal subsystem is constructed, which is one of important parts of PAT system.In order to obtain high performance of acquisition, beam scanning methods need to be studied. This paper describes the beam scanning methods in detail and compares rectangular way and spiral way of scanning methods. The simulating results prove the spiral way fits PAT theory model better. Experimental platform driven by stepper motor is also built to test the systematic performance.
