Literature In The Era Of Electronic Media

Usually the definition of electronic media can be talked about in both broad and narrow senses. Broadly speaking, the electronic media are all kinds of modem medium after printing media period. Narrowly speaking, the electronic media is a kind of media through digital technology. Now is the electronic media era, movie, television and internet become the most popular media. Since today's literature is within the historical context of the electronic media era, my essay will study the concerning issues in the narrow sense of this specific era, in order to broaden the vision of studying literature through objectively analyzing the alienation and assimilation between these two kinds of cultures.First part is from the new characterisitics of the latest electronic media to analyze the difference between literature and electronic media literature. Electronic media is a faster, multidimensional, face to face communication and direct transferring symbol, anyhow literature is a slower, unidimensional indirect symbol which depend on the understandings and imaginations of audience. Electronic media culture mix positive and passive factors: electronic media culture is centralization of state power as well as democratic politics; it represents authoritative voices, and also one kind of mass culture; it is liberation and oppression for the audience; it speeds up media globalization and also stimulates the awakening their local consciousness. Certainly, the advantages of electronic media take up mainstream.Second part is from the difference of cognitive mode to analyze two kinds of cultures. Electronic media culture and literature are different in production, transmission and representation. This is not only the difference between their mechanism of production, transmission and configuration, but also brings about the difference in apperceive of audience.
