Active Power filters are advance devices in the field of Harmonic and reactive power compensation. The performance of APFs is affected greatly by their control unites. Digital control systems which are of high reliability, high flexibility and high-speed, meet the requirements of APF best. Dual-chip systems can fit the requirements even better than single-chip systems with a lower cost. This paper starts from source and harm of harmonics, continues with simulation, analysis and comparison of three kind of control strategies of APF: they are Improved i_p-i_q Method for Three-phase Four-wire Systems, Per-phase Harmonic Reference Generator Method(PPHRG), Direct Power Control(DPC). In the first part of this article, collected power data of an office building is used to build a model in simulation. With this model, the three different control strategies are simulated to illustrate their characteristics by the simulation results.Following part of this paper gives the hardware design and software design of a three-phase three-wire active power filter based on dual-DSP controller. Includes detailed instructions on: signal sensor, signal process, dual-DSP system, driver and main circuit. Distributed control task, program flow design, C program and testing skill are also well discussed. At last, the experiment system and experiment results are introduced. By analyzing and comparing the results(data and waveforms), all the information comes to conclusions which describe the features of designed APF working on different kind of non-linear loads.
