With the advancement of hospital information technology, the research in EPR (Electronic Patient Record) has become the focus of medical region in domestic and foreign in recent years. The key point is how to implement the EPR with open, standard, extensible method. In an open and self-description way, XML (extensible Markup Language) defines the data structure as well as the content and structure, as it denotes the relationship between data. There are expansibility, readability, platform-independent and structure virtues in XML. At the same time, there is a set of standard technology architecture in relation to XML application. XML is useful to describe half-structured data such cases, and CPR based on XML correspond to Internet, which make it possible to share medical data. This thesis presents a model of CPR based on XML, and describes the functions of it ,using the object-oriented way. CRP based on XML is analyzed by starting data conversion, which has two steps: CPR based on XML in hospital need to be converted into data stored in database, and vice versa. Furthermore, CPR based on XML from different medical institutions should be understood and recognized by each other. CPR has functions of far medical consultation, which make it necessary to share data between different medical institutions. The thesis research several methods and put forward an efficient method which takes an XML DTD as input and produces a relational schema as output for storing and querying XML document conforming to the input DTD. About the data conversion between hospitals, a method and an arithmetic are put forward which are based on knowledge base.
