Mobile agent technology proposed for solving complex, dynamic and distributed intelligent application is a completely new computation model. It brings vigor for the design, implementation and maintenance of distributed systems. It has several advantages incomparable with other computation models. A few researchers present applicable domains of mobile agent technology such as information retrieve, data stream filtration, QoS of wireless multi-media, agent-based personal service, commercial wireless service and so on. However, these proposed application domains have not been accepted widely. Therefore, to judge whether a domain is applicable or not needs the support of a simulation platform for mobile agent system. So development of mobile agent systems needs the support of simulation.NS2 is an open source network simulator. It has highly prominent ability of application data steam simulation. Another open source project IBM Aglet is one of the most successful and comprehensive mobile agent programming framework. Based on analysis of NS2 and reference to the mature IBM Aglet programming framework, a simulation platform of mobile agent system is implemented. The implemented simulation platform support the simulation of both network transmission delay and mobile agents system process delay, by which the simulation can reflect the real mobile agent system more precisely. It has also resolved the maintenance of connection between mobile agent running environments. So multi-agent systems can be simulated by using the implemented simulation platform. Finally, the comparison of the results of simulation model and mathematic model indicates that the simulation platform is valid and it can be used for mobile agent system development.
