Radar automatic target recognition based on high resolution range profile (HRRP) has been widely studied by researchers at home and abroad. The prerequisite of target recognition is a good knowledge at the properties of target data. The key of target recognition is to make good use of the features of the target data. Due to fully utilizing high resolution range profile's feature to radar target recognition, a new method dividing HRRP into areas for processing is proposed in this paper. The method utilizes the breadth of HRRP itself to divide it into areas .It utilizes the breadth of HRRP itself to exponential's feature transformation and estimates the contribution to recognition of different areas. The experimental results based on the measured data in outfield show that the new method can improve recognition performances greatly.
