Study On The Application And Evaluation Of XML In Information Retrieval System

With the extensive application in the Internet and the speedy development of the information technology, the means of attaining information change infinitely. And diverse retrieval systems gradually come into being one of the major instruments on which different consumers depend when gaining information. The retrieval effects of retrieval systems, however, can not meet the consumers' needs. Considering all aspects of the matter, one of the effective methods of improving retrieval instruments is the standardization of items on the net pages and structure, and with particular advantages, therefore, XML are devoted to the attentions on the application and evaluation in the information retrieval systems.This paper is divided into three partsThe first one contains chapter 1, discussing the birth and related study of XML. After inducting its birth background, this chapter briefly introduces its advantages, meaning, characteristic and main composition.The second one contains chapter 2 and 3, mainly introducing application of XML in retrieval systems on databases and search engines. After analyzing the localization of traditional retrieval systems on databases, chapter 2 dwells on the classification, constitution of retrieval systems and compares the retrieval systems on databases with traditional systems, in conclusion it discusses the effect on optimizing the retrieval systems on databases. The chapter 3 analyzes the localization of traditional search engines firstly, then discusses respectively the classification, exploitation, constitution, and compares it with traditional ones, consequently the chapter analyzes the effect of XML on optimizing search engines.The third one contains chapter 4, which is the difficulty and innovation in the dissertation, mainly studying on the evaluation of XML information retrieval system. At the very start Chapter 4 discusses the significance and function of foundation on evaluation indexes on of XML information retrieval system , then because this index system are founded, according to developing the useful and discarding the evaluation indexes of traditional information retrieval system, it summarizes the evaluation indexes of two traditional information retrieval systems, namely, database retrieval system and search engines, analyzing the otherness and particularity between XMLinformation retrieval system and traditional ones, as well as dwells on its selection and partition, its calculating method about index and the method how to endue with its weights.The forth part contains chapter 5, which summaries the theory and practice instruction significance of the paper, analyses the reason for the unsolved problems, and provides the outlook for further study.
