Relevant Technologies Used In The Construction Of Specific Database Platform

This paper reports a study about the personalized information service. The types of personalized information service are discussed, and also, a method of establishing specific databases to meet the users' requirements is put forward. Firstly, the conception of digital information resources and the main characteristics of digital library are studied. Some relevant technologies used in constructing specific database are disserted, such as search engine technology, Client/Server architecture, Browser/Server technology and Full-text retrieval technology. Secondly, according to the specific direction, the paper emphasizes on the organization methods of specific information resources, including its definition, information preservation model based on extensible Markup Language (XML), selecting and evaluating criteria, organization methods, indexing & searching methods. Especially, information ingest technology, cross-database search technology and CD publish/retrieve technology are most important parts in the study. Thirdly, based on the study about the mechanism of the specific information service, a general frame for establishing the specific database platform is outlined. Finally, by integrating the characteristics of medicine, the medical specific database platform was constructed.Based on the Military Academy Digital Library Application Software System (MDLS), by adopting the operating system of Windows 2000 Server, the specific database platform can realize the full-text retrieval function by FTS as a Full-text Retrieval Server. It offers the following conveniences to the users: message of a wide variety of resources, information of standard form and the easy-retrieval system.The great importance of the study is that the construction of medical specific database platform contribuets the building of other subjects' specific database platform. By building the specific database, the professionals of certain fields can easily access to specific information, and break through the limits of their own ability to acquire information. Furthermore, it saves time and energy for the professionals.
