This research introduces the construction of road database. Aiming at the character of road data and shortcomings of today's road data model, this study constructs road database integrated by network and polygon basing on object-oriented concept model. There are four main contents here:1. Based on the fundamental of database designing, technical character of road database, and the data of this project, the research chooses appropriate database software, designs the spatial data and attribute data structure.2. This study constructs road network based on object-oriented concept model. Firstly, we introduce the theory of network model. Secondly, we investigate the geometric network and the logical network in Geodatabase. Lastly, we create road network stored as geometric network class, and give the features in this network.3. This paper provides the process of road data's surveying, organizing, supervising and storing, and explores road data's organize to integrate network and polygon representations on emphases. We divide road system into two levels. In level-1, we keep the road and crossway as polygon, and in level-2, we generate center line from road and center point from crossway as network features and objects of spatial analysis. Furthermore, we present the principia of putting road into sections.4. A product developed for affording Wuhan Construction and Management Commission reference to manage roads and ferries is showed. The software realizes all kinds of querying, statistic and analyzing under the fundamental of road database.
