In recent years, the research on high-power semiconductor laser has being developed rapidly in the world. To get the same output power, it is remarkably superior to manufacture a laser array to a single high-power laser. Therefore, the research on the technic of high-power semiconductor laser array is turned into a vital domain in the current integrated optics.But the main restriction in the development and application of semiconductor laser is that the laser beam shape is extremely asymmetrical, and its divergence angle is very big. In order to obtain high efficient laser output and apply it, shaping and transforming the beam is prerequisite. At present, there are many reports about the coupling of single laser and lens, and the technic also is quite mature. However, because of the precise requests of the manufacture technic and assembly, the technic of shaping for unidimensional linear and two-dimensional planar beams is not mature enough, almost at the researching or experimenting stage. A planar micro-lens array added a semi-column lens, a even index column lens, or directly burning a small ball at one end of the fiber and other practical linear array shaping methods had been used overseas and interiorly. These methods get some effect in the laser array coupling, but there is some deficiency at the same time.This article has studied the coupling of the laser array and the optical fiber array by a new way, namely using a selfoc column-lens array as the component of the laser beam shaping. This kind of coupling method is much more simple in manufacture technic, relatively easy to assemble, and it can obtain high coupling efficiency and has good practical value. At present, there is no reports about this interiorly.When to use the selfoc lens to shape the beam with a big divergence angle, the inclination angle of the ray through the lens and the focal distance of the lens can be determined by selecting a certain lens length, and the facula transformation can be given by the law ABCD. Therefore, it can get high coupling efficiency as long as it is satisfied that the certain divergence angle beam can be transmitted in selfoc, and the facula size after the lens is not bigger than the fiber core diameter, as well as the incidence angle is not bigger than the NA angle of the fiber.Several conclusions are drew by the array coupling experiment. The selfoc lens array is propitious to the coupling for semiconductor laser, while the focusing constant , the radius a and the length z of the selfoc lenswould determine the coupling efficiency. To get much high coupling efficiency, it can be realized by improving some optical parameter of the selfoc lens.This article has also further consummated the high-power laser array coupling theory and practice.
