A Study Of News Adaptation From The Functionalist Approaches

News adaptation is indispensable to the communication of information and culture. It is widely used in TV, broadcast, newspaper, and other kinds of news media. News translation or media translation is not a new topic in the field of translation, since many Chinese scholars have discussed it in their works, some of which talk about it from the perspective of Functionalism. According to the skopos of the functionalists, the translation produces the text based on the purpose of translation and the target readers. News adaptation is to pay attention to the reflection of the target readers and the purpose and effect of the communication. To adjust the original text through deletion, addition, combination, paraphrase from the perspective of the target readers can improve the quality of the translation, the readability and acceptability so that the communicative purpose of the translation will be realized.The thesis analyzes the examples of news adaptation from the macroscopic and microcosmic aspects of the functional approaches of translation. In the process of news adaptation, we should draw support from text typology, scopos, theory of translation action and function plus loyalty, learn the target readers and the purpose of news adaptation, in order to adjust the news information with effect. At the same time, the functional translation theory can make the translation standardized, close to the readers, loyal and correct.In the first part, the thesis introduces the representative theories and some important concepts in the functional approaches to translation, pointing out that the functional translation theory is a kind of effective theoretical foundation for news adaptation. The second part elaborates news adaptation. News adaptation is the combination of compiling and translation. The third part explores how the methods of news adaptation are used from the functionalism. The fourth part makes detailed analysis on an example of news adaptation. From the example, we can see how the compiler uses the translation methods freely from the macroscopic and microcosmic aspects.
