In recent years, modeling and simulations technologies have been gaining tremendous momentum in investigationg crowd dynamics. Simulation architectures have been developed; virtual environment representations have been constructed. A number of behavior models have been proposed with different types of modeling approaches, such as flow-based models and agent-based models. To study or mimic the dynamics of a crowd, modelers have considered a number of physical factors, social factors, and psychological factors when characterizing crowds in their models. Computer-based modeling and simulation technologies have emerged to support investigation of the dynamics of crowds. Crowd simulations hava been intensively used for real-time tactiacal military training.This study proposes a novel method based on studing the technologies of crowd modeling and simulation. The method is based on the concept of the vector field to formulate the way in which external stimuli may affect the behaviors of individuals in a crowd. Our approach represents each individual as an autonomous agent whose action are guided by the vector field model. Further more, the concept of information entropy has been adopted to describe the connection between individuals'behaviors and the potenrtial of disorder of the whole crowd. And the concept of psychological panic has been adopted to study the psychological changes in the crowd.The content of this researched thesis mainly included the following aspects:(1)Described the research significance and ground of the crowd modeling and simulation, and introduced the method and the existing work of the crowd modeling and simulation. Further more the existing crowd modeles are summarized in the study.(2)Introduced the mainstream method of the crowd modeling based on the existing work, and grasp the important aspect of the crowd modeling and simulation.(3)Described the proposed new method for the confrontations based on vector field in detail. Introduce the concept of vector field to formulate the way in which external stimuli may affect the behaviors of individuals in a crowd, and used the agent-based approach to formulate the crowd's common features.(4)Adopted the concept of the entropy to describe the disorder of the crowd, and introduce the psychological panic to grasp and evaluate the changes of the psychology.(5)Described the structure of the crowd model and the simulation tools and platforms, introduced the submodel of the project and the process of the modeling in software.
