With the development of automobile, automobile dashboard has more functions and more stringent requirements are raised for dashboard's calibration by the manufacturers. Now calibration testing mostly is accomplished manually by operators and also depends on operator's visual inspection, thus, there are many problems with dashboard calibration like low efficiency, misjudgment and inaccuracy. So based on these problems, this paper provides auto calibration system based on machine vision, which makes the calibration and inspection low-cost, high-performance and flexible.The first chapter has introduced the machine vision technology, and then claimed the thesis's background, range, aims and meanings of the thesis. The second chapter has analyzed the calibration process, and then claimed the significance and the feasibility of auto calibration system using machine vision. After that, thesis structure, hardware design and software design are presented. The third chapter has introduced the methods for image processing, including image processing for grey picture and color picture, mathematical morphology, template matching and Hough transform. These methods provide a solid theoretical foundation for next chapter. The fourth chapter has given the examples of three auto dashboards, CD34X L1, MODEL Y and C307/08. This chapter applies image processing methods, which have been introduced in Chapter 3, to these three dashboards'pictures. These pictures are first pre-processed like filtering and denoising, and then we could extract pointer, test warning lamp and find position of scale. The fifth chapter has introduce software design of the system, including running environment, flow process and software interface.Experimental results prove that the system meets the demand of manufacturers and it is more accurate and more efficient than manual calibration tester. The key technology and the developing experiences of the system are summarized at the end of the paper, meanwhile, the thesis offers suggestions and prospect for the future research work.
