Compared with single viewpoint video, stereoscopic video has quadruple number of data to deal with. For the convenience of storage and transmission, stereoscopic video should be compressed with high efficiency. H.264 is the new generation video compression standard and it has a higher compression ratio and better channel adaptation. It has extensively application prospect.This paper optimizes the H.264 stereoscopic video coding algorithm, including the comparison and analysis of 2D/3D video coding test model, implementation of Simple UMHexagon Search algorithm and mode decision algorithm, transplantation of the decoder based on Windows Mobile. H.264 Multi-View Coding introduces disparity compensation prediction by reference frame control, thus improves the coding efficiency. However, the coding speed is slow. This paper focuses on the optimization of the motion estimate search algorithm and mode fast decision. The optimized method improves the motion estimate search efficiency and decreases the coding complexity on premise of the guaranteed decoded image quality and coding efficiency, thus greatly improves video coding rate and the encoding time is about 20 percent of the original.Based on the research above, this paper also involves with the video decoding and display on client, including PC client and Windows Mobile client. Finally, the experimental results indicate that the program operates normally and image display can achieve the expected effect.
