Concept Generation Of Interaction Design Based On Conceptual Blending

The research is part of innovative project—SimpleUI in Consumer Experience Design in Beijing Motorola. As a short term innovative project, SimpleUI is a concept-based project whose objective is to develop a simple mobile interface for the commuters. How to build a proper design process is highlighted in order to develop target concept effectively. A great effort has been made to establish a concept generation process of interaction design. A method is advanced to face the challenge in how to develop topic-based interface as well as shorter design period.Conceptual Blending theory indicates mental process when percept concepts. Combining semantic mapping based concept blending and characteristic of interaction design, process framework aimed at concept generation has been developed which is composed of design task, analysis of design target, user experience analysis, configuration of experience and concept generation. Based on this framework, methods of both target analysis and user experience analysis have been figured out. Therefore, the shared structure of both"target"and"source"is built as basic mapping mechanism. By semantic study and launching questionnaires, semantic space of interaction experience is defined as an image"bridge"between both interaction experience as"target"and user experience as"source". A concept generation design process for interaction design is advanced in order to express the implicit concept generation process in an explicit way and structure the concept generation process. SimpleUI validates the concept generation framework and gives an answer of how to effective develop a concept-based design project.As for the attribute of this thesis, an approach of changing explicit knowledge into implicit knowledge has been advanced in terms of theory method. From the perspective of design practice, As a short term innovative project, SimpleUI is a successful case which finally became a launched product and gained positive user comments. It is an initial design approach for mobile interface using in the mobile context.
