Data transmission is one of the key technology in VHF frequency hopping communication radio. A platform of hardware and software with the characteristics of high efficiency, high speed and flexibility to implement in engineering is very important to the system performance.Based on the theory discussed before, this paper proposed a data transmission software design philosophy and program flow suitable to the new VHF frequency hopping communication radio. This paper gives the illustration of the key problem in the design and flow sheet through analysis and design to the hardware platform and software suite.First, this paper designed and built a platform with DSP, FPGA and ARM based on the overall plan constitution and demonstration of high speed frequency hopping communication radio. Then, the physical layer, link layer and application layer are designed with the idea of software radio through software program to DSP and ARM. The point to point FEC and ARQ data transmission software are finished in the platform and the new VHF frequency hopping radio prototype is developed. Finally, the performance testing is made. Results show that the new VHF frequency hopping radio satisfies the system requirement and the design object is obtained, which provides a good guide to the subsequent research.
