Currently the market demand for high speed Active Optical Cable is very strong and a huge number of money has been invested to develop and materialize the products. The author has participated in a project developing high speed Active Optical Cable which speed is 40Gbps.Base on the market technologies and standards, this thesis introduces the design and realization for high speed Active Optical Cable. From chapter1 and chapter2, we could know the current technologies of Active Optical Cable and some basic information. Chapter3 and chapter4 introduce the design for optical part and electrical part. And chapter5 gives us the information how to realize the design and the evaluation result of the design.As member of the project team, the author was responsible for the optical design and process realization. Through analysis for market technologies and fiber optical theory, the author gives us a new design for optical part with utilization of Vertical Chamber Surface Emitting Laser. And for process realization, the author was the leader to establish and finalize the flow. Moreover, the author also joined the project establish and pre-analysis and proposed the cost forecast from the technical point of view. The 40Gbps high speed Active Optical Cable has being moved to mass production phase after design and evaluation for more than two years and all the characteristics meet the international specifications and standards. This product has brought a big amount of return to the company and the country and will be the foundation of the further development of higher speed fiber optical products.
