Mobile, wireless technology is in a period of rapid growth, widely using of GPS and remote sensing technique. Complex environment of radio propagation prediction is an important research subject, and it is very important in optimizing modern mobile communication system, GPS positioning, radar warning and electronic warfare. The Parabolic Equation (PE) is an numerical form of the wave equation, whose electromagnetic energy propagates along the axis of the cone-shaped parabolic transmission within the region. This method is widely used in troposphere radio propagation, because of its ability of handling complex environmental conditions and efficient. The parabolic equation method has been extensively studied in recent years. Although it has gained a wealth of achievements, there are still many unsolved issues. In this paper, the parabolic equation method for radio propagation in complex environments is studied, as well as, the radio Loss in the spread of wireless communications is calculated based on the parabolic equation method.Firstly, this article discussed the research trends of the current issue of wave propagation characteristics at home and abroad, introduced the history and development as well as application prospects of PE methods. Secondly, the theory of the PE algorithm was derived in detail, including the standard two-dimensional parabolic equation, three-dimensional scalar parabolic equations, vector parabolic equation, bit vector function parabolic model. And then, the boundary conditions of vector 3DPE was studied, including absorbing boundary and impedance boundary conditions. The article used approach of decomposed the field into odd and even parts to solve the boundary conditions and 3DPE. Secondly, the reliability of the parabolic model was confirmed for calculations of the ground wave propagation loss. Lastly, the PE algorithm was used to calculate the wireless communication circuit transmission loss in mountain area. It analyzed the influence of antenna height on wave propagation. Also, wave propagation loss in urban micro cells was calculated to establish a platform for calculating wave propagation loss in Mobile Communications Area in the future.
