Wireless audio sensor network (WASN) has become one of the hot topics. Due to the limitations on size, power, storage capacity and communication capabilities of wireless audio sensor network nodes, a number of factors need to be considered for its design. This thesis proposes a ZigBee-based audio capture node design after analyzing the wireless audio network node architecture. The node can be used for audio capture and transmission, and can be organized into a network by using the ZigBee wireless communication protocol. In this thesis, we firstly analyze the concept of wireless audio sensor network and its system structure, characteristics and application fields. ZigBee is chosen as its communication protocol after the comparison of several short-distance wireless communication technologies. Secondly, we design the audio hardware and software systems of wireless audio sensor network, including the node schematic diagram and PCB diagram, the node PCB debug, audio acquisition program of the node, data transmission programming through wireless communication and control platform software. Finally, in order to achieve system reliability for audio data collection and transmission and to minimize power consumption, we propose an audio fusion algorithm named adaptive sampling and diversity reception. The proposed algorithm not only improves the SNR and data arrival rate of audio data, but also minimizes the system energy consumption.
