With the increasing demand for high-speed transmission, and the growing problem of energy shortage, wireless communication system has been developing towards broadband, high PAR, high efficiency, which requires the mobile communication base station has a wider frequency band and lower power consumption. RF power amplifier is one of the most critical parts for a transmitter in mobile communication base station, and the performance of the PA affect the linearity and power consumption of the communication system. So it is significant to increase the working frequency band, linearity and efficiency of the PA in order to improve the performance of mobile communication base station system.The main purpose of this thesis is to study the basic theory of RF power amplifier, complete a Doherty RF power amplifier and a common class AB RF power amplifier circuit, and compare the performance of Class AB RF power amplifiers with Doherty power amplifier. The main task and innovation includes:(1) Design a class AB RF power amplifier for IMT-Advanced system base station, with 3.45GHz center frequency,100MHz operating bandwidth, and it supports high PAR signal transmission.(2) Design a Doherty RF power amplifier for IMT-Advanced system base station, with 3.45GHz center frequency,100MHz operating bandwidth, and its drain efficiency is above 21%. It also supports high PAR signal transmission. The Doherty power amplifier has higher efficiency than the general class AB RF power amplifier at the same backed-off output power level, therefore, it is significant for a RF transmitter to enhance the efficiency of it.
