Maneuverability and the motion control problem of large container ships is an important research subject in ship control field. There are directed navigation and mobile navigation two states. This paper.is based on a 9572 TEU container ship data to establish its mathematical mode, and systematically studies on ship course intelligent control.It is very important to establish appropriate ship model for course controller. This paper adopts MMG modeling ideas, considering wind and current impact, and builds a ship model for normal speed field. In addition, correct the model because of shoal water effect. Utilizing Matlab S function, write ship model and simulate making use of 9572 TEU container ship in order to prove model is correct. And make simulation tests for maneuverability at different speeds.Course controller is the key point for this paper. Firstly, this paper designs a relay feedback self-tuning PID controller and it shows control performance is better from simulation result. Because the ship is a complex nonlinear system, so it is difficult to establish actual-matched the mathematical model. As for this problem, the paper designs a basic fuzzy controller and a fuzzy self-tuning PID controller. The simulation results show that the performance of the basic fuzzy controller meets requirement and is better than traditional PID controller, but also the stability, regulating time and performance of fuzzy self-tuning PID controller is better. Finally, introduce the genetic algorithm into fuzzy controller for optimizing control rule, making the control more reasonable, and the simulation results is ideal.
