With the development of CAD/CAM technology and increasing demand for dental clinics of people, dental technology revolution basing digital technology is slowly coming.The functions of dental CAD/CAM equipment include several aspects such as examination of impaired teeth, scanning of dental data model, design of restoration modeling and completing the restoration of patient's teeth etc.As one of key technologies about dental CAD/CAM system, the Digital Laser Dental Scanning System (DLDSS) is developed, and studied further. The main achievements are as follows:1. Mechanical structure and electric control system of DLDSS are designed, and its functions of various parts are implemented.2. The dynamical model of the scanning unit with three axes is given. Also, based on ball fitting, a calibration algorithm with its flow diagram is presented.3. The system software structure of the DLDSS is designed, and its key technologies are described. System software consists of some function modules which are controlling module, interface module, displaying module and algorithm module. The dependency of these modules is clear and is implemented in the form of Dynamic Link Library (DLL). Finally, a careful evaluation of system's efficiency is conducted by experiments.4. The effectiveness about the mechanical structure, calibration and system software are demonstrated by the experiments.Finally, the further research topical subjects for polishing the presented system are suggested.
