At present, remote sensing images have been widely applied to Earth observation, missile guidance, military precision strikes, and other fields. Remote sensing image recognition and analysis have gradually become a research focus. The Airport is an important civilian and military building, so it is particular important to identify the airport fast and accurateThis paper combines a number of existing methods, and gives a set of relatively complete airport identification process. First of all, the paper starts from the image pre-processing, and focuses on analysis of morphological image enhancement. Then, it describes the basic features of the airport. Based on it, we set up a mathematical model as the identification of the airport basis. We do some discussion for the airport image segmentation and extraction and research on a variety of methods of segmentation. We use region labeling method to extract the largest airport connected domain.To detect region on the runway edge, we discussed a variety of edge detection operator method, and decide to use the Canny edge operator to extract edge combined with the characteristics of remote sensing images.Combined with the structural characteristics of the runway, we describe Radon transform and the method to extract straight line by Hough transform and Improved Hough Transform. Finally, we select the Hough transform to extract straight line,match and extract the airport runway based its characteristics. We determine the airport area of the airport using region growing method.From the experimental results, we can see that the system can effectively and accurately extract the airport area.
