With the continuous development of geological information science, the GIStechnology, database technology and computer automated analysis haveintegrated with mapping technology, which apply to the geological researchand geological software development. It is becoming the current trend.Especially as computer technology and geographic information system GIStechnology grow very mature today, people gradually start to use computer toassist geological mapping.Mapping and filling of lithologic pattern symbol has always been the focusand difficulty in geological mapping, because stratum structure is extremelycomplex, oil distribution and very uneven, which lead to a large amount of data,and ineffective drawing. Current symbol filling mainly uses raster image (rasterimage) combined with vector algorithm, but the result is not satisfying.The study is based on windows platform, using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008as a development tool, access2007 as a database, It use Visual C + + programto facilitate data storing and graphics rendering. In this paper, the followingwork is completed:1. With the modular design and object-oriented idea, the lithology patternmodule is divided into the rock pattern symbol drawing module, display module,and the management module. Each of the three parts has detailed design andimplementation. 2. In this paper, we set rules to name rocks. By reversing the rules, andclassification of the various parts, the symbols are filled with differentalgorithms. .3. Similar to the plug-in function, it uses middle ware objects ArcObjectsprovided by Arcgis, which allow the software module to connect to the softwareplatform. The platform has already been built by geologic institute. In this way,it achieves cross-platform development.In summary, this paper is based on object-oriented idea to achieve themodular and structural design of lithology pattern symbols. Through analyzingnames of rocks and classifying them, it draws on various parts of the symbol.Through combination of the vector and raster filling algorithms, and overlayingthe graphic layers and primitives, it enable to draw lithology pattern symbolseffectively.
