Electrocardiogram(ECG) is a vital sign of human body. We use electrocardiographs to record the activities of heart. There are two kinds of format to record ECG:one is MFER, the other is EDF, the fist being used in machines produced by Japan, and the latter being used in Europe. Most of the electrocardiographs used in Chinese hospitals are made from Japan (NIHON), which use the format of MFER to record wave data. This paper first investigates the two kinds of format, MFER and EDF, paying more attention to MFER.The detection of R wave peak is the most important in the processing and analyzing of ECG, so I study the problem of R wave peak detection in the subsequent part. I investigated the R wave peak detection method based the EMD:fist get IMFs (IMF1 IMF2 IMF3) through EMD, then synthesize the three components, and finally detecting R wave peak based on gradient and its threshold. The method is similar with the wavelet transform, but EMD does not need to choose the wavelet basis in advance, its basis obtained automatically from the ECG data itself. The body's physiologic rhythm has the character of Chaos. The heart is one of the most complicated systems. The clinical application of nonlinear analyzing may play a more and more important part in diagnosing. The heart diseases may also be featured by some other parameters. I analyzed the ECG data with many parameters, such as kurtosis, skewness, Lempel ziv complexity, approximate entropy, etc.
