Compared with the wireless network of traditional flat ad hoc, an important feature of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is the limitation of resources (energy, capacity of communications,computing and storage). The architecture, algorithm and protocol for designing energy-efficient wireless sensor network have been the research priorities in this field. Comparing to traditional network structure, SENMA (Sensor Network with Mobile Agent) network has higher energy efficiency. It can effectively extend the use of the entire network.The main work of this dissertation is the research and designing of protocol about the Media Access Control, (MAC). Combining the results of previous work with characteristics of SENMA network, this dissertation presents MAC Protocol which is suitable for WSN with Mobile Agent. This protocol includes clustering algorithm, contending for channel algorithm and data collection algorithm with Mobile Agent. It consists of two methods, centralized control method and distributed control method. Through centralized control method, Mobile Agent divides cluster structure and through distributed control method, common node determines cluster head as well as competition channel access. This algorithm can make full use of limited network resources. It can guarantee system throughput and system latency and improve the efficiency of energy utilization as well as prolong the network lifecycle.In this dissertation, we make a general introduce about Wireless Sensor Networks and the MAC protocols of it firstly. After this, the structure and characteristics of SENMA has been described. And the MAC protocol which has been designed in this dissertation is proposed later. Also, the details of its idea, work and principle of operation are illustrated. At last, a simulation platform has been built by using Matlab and performances of the protocol designed in this dissertation have been tested. Besides it makes a comparison with other protocols for showing its superiority.
