The SIP protocol, with its simple, flexible and easy to extend, has become one main protocol in building the video conferencing system. But with the rapid growth of users, SIP-based multimedia communication system has exposed the "single point of failure" and the "bottleneck" problems. P2P technology has high fault tolerance and scalability advantages of a single node failure will not affect the entire network. Therefore, the study of an effective mechanism for the combination of P2P and SIP to establish a new framework of multimedia communication system based on P2P-SIP, will be a very important practical significance to the development of network multimedia technology.Firstly, this paper narrates the basic principles of the multimedia communication system and related communication protocols, especially the SIP protocol architecture and call processing procedures carried out in-depth study.Secondly, the paper analyses and compares of the performance of several existing P2P algorithms, and choose the improved higher overall performance Chord algorithm as the bottom routing algorithm of the multimedia communication system. After the research of the above theory, the paper makes detail discussion on the mutual integration of SIP and P2P. What's more this paper proposed a P2P-SIP network communication model based on the improved Chord (BHChord). Finally, code portability, reusability as the basic principles, this paper designs overall multimedia communication system architecture based on P2P-SIP technology and realized the system in the Windows environment. The test results show that the system the paper designed has achieved the intended goal——the video conference system is stable and the less call delay with high quality of audio and video.
