With the widely use of P2P technology, a mount of network resources are consumed. A lot of them are unnecessary, because P2P applications know little underlying network infomation. It would be a win-win cooperation of ISP and P2P application:ISPs provide bearer network infomation to P2P applications. The P2P traffice will be under control and P2P application's performance will be improved. Now, IETF sets up Application-Layer Traffic Optimization (ALTO) workgroup to study bearer network infomation based traffic optimization standard.This thesis researchs on mon-query based ALTO. Its difference from di-queries based ALTO, such as P4P which needs to provide p-distance and PID queries, is that mon-query based ALTO melt p-distance into PIDs. In our study, mon-query based ALTO could reduce pressure of ALTO server. Meanwhile, p-distance melting into PID provides a new way of ALTO.The thesis is organized as follow:First, this thesis introduces the relevant background. Then, we introduce the p-distance melt into PID algorithm and its analysis. We present requirements of mon-query based ALTO, and then shows the details of mon-query based ALTO system. Finally, the mon-query ALTO is tested in a P2P network simulator and the the analysis results shows its effectiveness.
