As the continuing development and promotion of mobile services the requirement of data rate becomes higher and higher, as a result more bandwidth is needed. After the IMT-Advanced has announced to support the system bandwidth of 100MHz at the most, as one of the candidate standard of IMT-Advanced LTE-A has to confront this challenge as well as to guarantee the smooth evolution from LTE to LTE-A. So LTE-A has proposed carrier aggregation which can aggregate multiple continuous or discrete carriers that each uses to be the whole system carrier in LTE as a component carrier in LTE-A, so as to realize the maximum bandwidth of 100MHz. Although carrier aggregation can expand system bandwidth and improve the utility of spectrum effectively, it also brings new problems.The research in this paper is sponsored by Huawei Technology Foundation "Research on Key Technologies on Carrier Aggregation". The second chapter in this paper is the general introduction of the research related to carrier aggregation. Firstly, based on the system performance requirement of LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation is proved necessary, and the classification of carrier aggregation is introduced in detail. Then the problems caused by carrier aggregation are summarized systematically and analyzed comprehensively including RF hardware constraintion, spectrum heterogeneity, influences on LTE-Advanced system design and key technologies.In the third chapter in this paper, the problem of assignment of coordination scheme and coordination carrier in downlink coordinated multi-point with carrier aggregation for multiple users is further studied. An improved color sensitive graph coloring algorithm is proposed, and an allocation algorithm is designed based on this algorithm. This algorithm can allocate the coordination scheme and coordination carrier in downlink coordinated multi-point in a system deploying deploying carrier aggregation efficiently, and realize an ideal trade off between the data rate of each individual user and the thoroughput of the system. The related achievements contain an El indexed academic paper and an invention patent.In the forth chapter in this paper, the problem of rank adaptation in downlink multi-user MIMO with carrier aggregation is further studied. An algorithm based on spatial division multiplexing combined with frequency domain packet scheduling across multiple component carriers is proposed, and a rank adaptation algorithm is designed based on this algorithm. This algorithm can make the most of MIMO technology while guaranteeing the user fairness in time dimension, frequency dimension as well as spatial dimension in downlink multi-user MIMO in a system deploying deploying carrier aggregation effectively.
