In recent years, cooperative communication has become one of the hot-topics in the research field of wireless communication. In this article, the background and benefits of cooperative communication techniques are introduced first, with a brief conclusion of the research status drawn. Then, the details of different collaborative modes in cooperative communication are elaborately described, focusing on the relay-based collaborative mode and its three most commonly cooperative strategies: amplify and forward, decode and forward, and coded cooperation. Finally, according the order of protocol layer, that is, the physical layer, the media access control (MAC) layer and the Network Router layer from the bottom to the top, the designed schemes and proposed algorithms are well-organized and given in detail. In the physical layer, we first introduce three common space time code techniques, then the latest concept of distributed space time code and the analysis of distributed space-time coding for cooperative communication are given. Finally, we describe the orthogonal and quasi-orthogonal design of distributed space time block code.In the MAC layer, we first introduce the existing IEEE 802.11 protocol, and on this basis, we propose a new cooperative MAC algorithm, and the simulation of the algorithm is given. We found that the algorithm has good performance. In the routing layer, we first introduce the development of cooperative routing and the shortcomings of existing routing algorithms. Then, combing cooperative MAC with the existing AODV routing protocol, the detail of cooperative routing is described.Throughout this article, the core of work is the cooperative MAC algorithm, but the realization of the algorithm necessarily involves the physical layer and routing layer. Therefore, the whole article is an introduction of cooperative communication, in which cooperative MAC is the center, and distributed collaborative space time code and cooperative routing are the auxiliary. In addition, interference research on LTE-Advanced system with carrier aggregation to TD-SCDMA system is given, which provide a theoretical basis to wireless communication in the future.
