With information society progressing, mobility, wireless, data and bandwidth have become the trend of telecommunication. It is also an important way to get information delivered and obtained. Wireless communication and wide band access make it possible that people can communicate and get information anywhere and anytime. While finite frequency spectrum and short transmission distance limit the wireless communication. Optical fiber communication has advantage of great bandwidth, long distance and low loss, but bad flexibility. So the integration of optical and wireless communication will be hot spot in the next years.Due to the integration of the advantages of the extremely low loss, immune to electromagnetic interference and large bandwidth of fiber communication and the mobile feature and flexible access of wireless communication, Radio over fiber (ROF) technology is regarded as a promising and attractive solution on the wireless access networks. High quality optical millimeter-wave generation is a key technique to realize low cost and high transmission performance in the ROF systems. In the thesis, the technique of mm-wave generation in ROF system are first discussed, and then another key technology-the intermodulation distortion is also discussed. These schemes are based on Mach-Zehnder Modulator (MZM) which aims to uplink the RF signal to optical carrier. According to the character of MZM, high quality millimeter-wave generation and intermodulation distortion mitigation can be realized by adjusting the parameter. Optisystem 7.0 is used to test and verify the schemes.
