China now has more than 200 and 30 million migrant workers, who leave their homes and work hard in cities. The greatest appeal for the migrant workers to come to cities is employment, and their social networks play an important role for hunting jobs, therefore, the research question is on migrant workers'social networks. Firstly, why migrant workers rarely set foot in the current social network applications? Secondly, what are the characteristics of migrant workers'social networks? Thirdly, what kind of social network application fit into migrant workers? Fourthly, How to design a social network application for migrant workers? This article is in the "user-centered design" perspective for research. The study is divided into four phases:the first stage was to read the literature at home and abroad to understand the progress of similar researches, analyzing their strengths and weaknesses to develop this research plan; the second stage was to select migrant workers in Dalian, then conducted questionnaire surveys and interviews on them to explore the characteristics of their social networks, and through the approach of storytelling to investigate the status of migrant workers'social networks and the role of social networks in the process of job hunting, the need of migrant workers in the social network applications is clear by this way; the third stage is the phase of solution designing, based on the need of migrant workers'social network, through the approaches of brainstorming and design workshop to propose solutions and to explore how to design social network applications for migrant workers; then, migrant workers participated in the prototype design, improve and evaluate by the approach of iterative design, resulting into a specific solution. The results showed that the migrant workers' social networks can be divided into two parts, one is social networks in cities, the other is social networks in hometowns, each part can be further broken down according to the different members. Migrant workers do need social network applications, and they have significant needs when they want to work and changing jobs. Designing product for migrant workers should be based on their ICT features, the systems with clear name and simple interactive process are more fit for them, and what's more, using the approaches of usability engineering and user-centered design to design the product can meet the needs of migrant workers.
