Flat profile figure is a common data figure in geophysical fields (like gravity and magnetic treatment). It is drawn of discrete point data (the coordinate values and the attribute values) according to certain corresponding relation. We often conduct related researches by analyzing profile figure and discrete points flat data. However, due to various historical reasons, in the course of the research, we only have flat image but lack of primitive discrete point data. Under this kind of circumstance, we can only restore the original discrete vector data through flat profile figure vectorization which has a quite tedious process. At present, the common technology is manual vectorization. Computer automatic vectorization is rare, and this paper aims at this kind of technology to do research. Content as follows:Firstly, the paper summarized the research of manually trace flat profile figure vectorization. Not only chooses the right vector representation for hand draw the coordinate lines and the attribute value line, but also deeply studies algorithm that we get the discrete point data from vector line. And the discrete point results which is out of the grid point data processing, is compared with the original flat profile figure. It is verified the accuracy of the algorithm and lays a good foundation for computer automatically identification.Secondly, study of the automatic vectorization of the computer identification is very necessary due to the inefficiencies of manually identification. The paper described in detail in the following sections of the flat profile figure automatically vectorization the related technologies (including flat profile figure grayscale, binary, burr removal processing, edge extraction, corrosion and expansion, and connect breakpoint), and developed the program about the flat profile figure automatic identification. However, due to the special factors of the flat profile figure, the programme can not do the vectorization total automatically, and needs to add some simple manual auxiliary guide (such as mouse drag and traction). It still leaves space to improve in the future.
