Backwind zone is a reflection of one kind of phenomenon in speed image of Doppler radar, which always appears in strong convective weather, and has special flow field features of strong rainy zone which always corresponding to disaster weather, such as strong wind, heavy rain, hail and so on. Implementing the function of automatic backwind zone identification will warn us against strong convective zone, which have a great significance to military and people's livelihood.Based on the echo image constructed from speed data which was collected by the Doppler weather radar, and according to the substantial features of backwind zone, such as bigger and anomaly image, and the difference between the speed of backwind zone and the speed nearby is beyond threshold, this paper uses fuzzy filter, image enhancement, approved sequence algorithm, dual sequence comparison and etc in order to identify backwind zone.In the first, we use fuzzy filter to filter the noisy points and tiny zones which would interfere the recognition of backwind zone, and convert the RGB image into gray image. Then we use a method, called top-hat and bottom-hat image enhancement, to enhance the image in order to emphasize every zone. Then we use canny edge detection operator to detect the edge, then close the iamge whose edge has been detected, and detect the edge of every closed zone for the edge comparison. Next, approved sequence algorithm, which is created by this paper, is applied to classify the edge of every closed zone. At last, we use original dual sequence comparison algorithm and pre-determined threshold to identify the backwind zone.The results shows that this algorithm can identify the backwind zone effectively.
